Meet Chris and Ashley Peace
Delegate Christopher K. Peace represents the Virginia House of Delegates’ 97th District and serves on the prominent Courts of Justice, Health Welfare and Institutions, Science and Technology, and Finance Committees. The district spans parts of Hanover, Caroline, King William, King and Queen, Henrico, Spotsylvania Counties and all of New Kent County. Now in his second term of office, Peace was named the State Police Association and Virginia Sheriff’s Association legislative Rookie of the Year in 2006. Peace won re-election to the House in 2007.
Prior to his service in the legislature, Peace worked as a public affairs consultant with McGuireWoods Consulting, a national public affairs and public relations firm. Peace began his career by working as a legislative aide to then-Delegate Eric Cantor (now 7th District US Congressman), and as a law clerk for the Richmond City Attorney and Virginia’s Attorney General. Currently Peace represents Smithfield Foods, Inc. and is a member of the bar association of the District of Columbia. He is an adjunct professor of legal studies at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, and locally, he serves as the executive director of a local historical non-profit foundation.
A native of Hanover, Peace has always been an active member of his community. He founded One Hanover PAC, a local political action committee looking to unite county residents through increased civic participation, and served others through these community groups: the Virginia Council of Human Rights; Hanover Republican Committee (former Vice Chairman); Executive Secretary of the Heritage and History of Hanover County; Hanover Association of Businesses/Chamber of Commerce (former Vice Chairman); Hanover Safe Place (former board member); Hanover Ruritan Club; Mechanicsville Businessmen’s Association; the New Kent and Caroline Chambers of Commerce; the Sons of the American Revolution; and Fraternal Lodge No. 168. The Speaker of the House recognized Peace’s leadership skills and appointed him to statewide boards important to his district: the State Advisory Council on Career and Technical Education, a member of the Human Services & Public Safety Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference, and the Virginia Council on Indians.
Peace matriculated at St. Christopher’s School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Hampden-Sydney College and earned his law degree from the University of Richmond. In 2005, Peace was named to the “Top 40 Under 40″ by Style Weekly magazine and is an alumnus of Leadership Metro Richmond and University of Virginia’s Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership.
